There’s something about a neutral Christmas that just feels right to me. It’s calm and timeless but still full of sparkle — the kind of magic that feels more like candlelight than chaos. I’ve always loved the way soft whites, warm woods, and twinkling lights make my home feel during the holidays. It’s festive, but never loud. A neutral Christmas isn’t about doing less; it’s about letting the cozy details speak for themselves. It’s layered, cozy, and still so festive — just in a softer, more intentional way. A touch of burgundy might sneak in here or there, but only if it feels earthy and subtle.

Building the Base
When I start decorating, I always think about texture first. Cozy knits, soft linen, and woven neutrals create that inviting foundation before any ornaments or garlands come out. I love mixing cream cable-knit pillows with wool throws in tan and taupe, and maybe a plaid in muted beige or olive for that extra warmth. This year I swapped my old tree skirt for a woven tree collar from Target, and it instantly elevated the space — it feels classic but modern at the same time.

Layering in Natural Greenery
Fresh or faux, greenery is always the star of the show in my holiday home. I love draping cedar or pine garlands across the mantel and letting them spill down naturally. Olive branches and eucalyptus stems add softness and depth to tabletops and shelves. I don’t like my greenery to look perfect — a little uneven, a little wild feels more organic. Most of my garlands are from Target (Studio McGee and Threshold lines are my go-tos) because they get that muted green tone just right — not too bright, not too fake.

The Warm Glow of the Season
Lighting makes everything come alive. I always use warm white twinkle lights — never cool white — and mix them with candlelight for that soft, golden glow. Battery-operated candles are everywhere in my house this time of year, especially the flickering ones that look real. I love lining my mantel with different heights of taper candles in glass and brass holders. It’s simple but instantly cozy.

Little Touches That Feel Special
Even though my palette stays neutral, I still like sprinkling in pieces that make it feel festive and a little playful. Wooden nutcrackers, ceramic Santas in cream and gold, and neutral bottlebrush trees from Target are some of my favorites. I have a few vintage-style reindeer that always end up on a console table or the kitchen shelves — they’re subtle, but they make me smile every time I walk by.

The Tree
My Christmas tree ties everything together. I stick to ornaments in shades of white, tan, gold, and soft green. There’s always a mix of matte, glass, and metallic finishes to keep it interesting. Linen ribbons trail down the branches instead of traditional tinsel, and wooden beads wrap softly around the tree for texture. Every year I add one or two new ornaments — usually something simple and neutral from Target or a handmade piece that feels special.

The Finishing Touches
I’m all about creating a feeling — the scent of pine, the flicker of candlelight, the sound of soft Christmas music playing in the background. I’ll usually have a simmer pot going with cinnamon, orange, and cloves, and that scent instantly makes the house feel like Christmas. I don’t want my home to feel overly styled or busy; I want it to feel calm, cozy, and full of warmth.

A Christmas That Feels Timeless
My favorite thing about keeping my Christmas decor neutral is how well it blends into my everyday style. Even after the holidays, it still feels beautiful and intentional. A little greenery, a little gold, a little glow — that’s all I need to make it feel like Christmas. It’s classic, cozy, and it never goes out of style.

And you can’t forget the outdoors! The front of your house is the first impression of your home to everyone and helps give your home the curb appeal to stand out. I love styling my front porch for every season. The neutral tones in my Holiday front porch decor is perfect for those that want the holiday touch, but don’t want the loud colors.

Here are a few tips that I abide by in creating the perfect Christmas porch decor.
- Find your starting piece that you will build around – a lot of times it is your front porch doormat
- Find some way to add height – Love how the faux trees and sign add height in my design
- Bring in textures – I did this with the wood, trees, and wreath
- Add dimension – I layered pieces and items to create dimension and depth
