One of my favorite parts of getting dressed for fall is adding the accessories. You can take the same pair of jeans and sweater you’ve worn a hundred times and make them feel completely different just by switching out your shoes, adding a new handbag, layering your jewelry, or tying on a scarf. And this fall, there are so many wearable accessory trends that make it easy to update your wardrobe without buying an entirely new closet.
As I’ve been browsing stores and seeing what’s new for fall, I keep noticing the same themes: rich fall colors, suede textures, bigger bags, statement jewelry, scarves, and shoes with a little more personality. The good news is that most of these fall accessories are incredibly easy to work into your everyday outfits.

Fall Shoes Are Getting More Interesting
I especially love the return of more classic shoe styles because they’re easy to wear with the things we already own. A pair of loafers looks just as good with straight-leg jeans and a sweater as it does with trousers for work. Ballet flats instantly make denim feel a little more feminine. A pair of ankle boots or tall boots can completely change the look of a dress or skirt. And if you want to try one of the more current trends without going too far outside your comfort zone, look for shoes with interesting details.

Suede Handbags Are Everywhere
If you buy one new accessory for fall, a suede handbag would be a great place to start. Suede is having a major moment this season, and we’re seeing it everywhere from shoulder bags and totes to smaller crossbody styles. Brown, cognac, taupe, burgundy, and other warm neutral shades are especially easy to wear with a fall wardrobe. I love a good brown bag for fall because it works with practically everything. Pair it with jeans and a cream sweater, a plaid shirt and boots, or even a simple black outfit when you want to warm things up a little.

Don’t Forget Your Sunglasses
Sunglasses aren’t just for summer! A good pair can be one of those little finishing touches that makes a fall outfit feel more complete. We’re seeing plenty of classic oversized frames, retro-inspired shapes, warm tortoiseshell, brown, and softer neutral tones that work beautifully with a fall wardrobe, and they’re an easy way to update your fall accessories.

Jewelry Is Getting Bolder & More Fun
Jewelry is another easy way to update your fall accessories, and this season we’re seeing a little more personality. Chunkier earrings, layered necklaces, statement rings, pearls, gold details, and mixed textures are all showing up.
That doesn’t mean you have to go over-the-top. One of my favorite ways to wear this trend is simply to take the jewelry you already own and layer it differently. Stack a few delicate necklaces, add a chunkier chain, mix your favorite rings, or swap your everyday studs for a statement earring. Fall outfits tend to be a little more covered up with sweaters, jackets, and coats, so jewelry is a great way to bring some interest back around your face and neckline because they can easily be worn with jeans and a sweater.

Scarves and Bandanas Are the Easiest Fall Accessory
If there’s one accessory I think everyone should have in their fall wardrobe, it’s a scarf. They’re practical, cozy, and one of the easiest ways to add color or pattern to an otherwise simple outfit.
This season, we’re seeing everything from classic plaid and striped scarves to printed silk scarves and smaller bandana-style options. And you don’t always have to wear them around your neck. Tie a silk scarf onto your handbag, wear it in your hair, or wrap a smaller one around your neck with a simple sweater. Instead of buying a bright sweater you might only wear a few times, you can add that pop of color or pattern through a scarf or bandana.

Western-Inspired Details Are Still Going Strong
If you dipped your toe into the Western trend last year, you can absolutely keep wearing those pieces this fall. The easiest way to do it is through your fall accessories rather than going full cowboy. Think Western-inspired boots, a belt with a statement buckle, a suede handbag, or even a little Western detail on your jewelry.

The Best Fall Accessory Trends Are the Wearable Ones
What I love most about the fall accessories is that you really don’t have to reinvent your wardrobe to participate. A new pair of shoes, a suede handbag, a pretty scarf, or a slightly bolder pair of earrings can make the clothes you already own feel completely new. If you’re shopping for fall, I’d start by looking at the accessories you reach for the most and figure out what could use a refresh.
You don’t need to buy every trend. Pick the pieces that fit your personal style and that you know you’ll actually wear. That’s always my favorite way to approach a new season: find a few fun updates, mix them into the wardrobe you already love, and make your everyday outfits feel a little more fresh for fall.
xoxo,
Jena
